Wake in Fright

  • LongPlay 318 St Georges Rd Fitzroy North, VIC, 3068 Australia

Chart Collective is thrilled to present Wake in Fright (1971), directed by Ted Kotcheff, as the second film of our four-part series at LongPlay in North Fitzroy, Stories in Landscape; Landscape in Stories. Adapted from Kenneth Cook’s 1961 novel of the same name, this film was described by Nick Cave as “The best and most terrifying film about Australia in existence”. It is certainly one of the most disturbing and eerie characterisations of a landscape that we have come across in the selection process for our series.

We're very excited that James Robert Douglas, writer, critic and interviews editor at The Lifted Brow will introduce the film for us on the night, adding all sorts of dimensions to the pleasure of watching (or rewatching) this cult classic.

To sweeten up the vibe, we are delighted to offer a door prize package of chocolates from Monsieur Truffe and flowers from Cecilia Fox, both in Brunswick East. All proceeds from the event will go towards funding Chart Collective.
